Unable to take the strain of falling wages and deteriorating standards any longer, nurses in Britain made a stand on Thursday as they embarked on their biggest strike since 1914. As many as 100,000 members of The Royal College of Nursing protested against what has become an increasingly dire situation within the National Health Service (NHS). These sweeping strikes come after years of grueling hardship for NHS personnel who have struggled with crippling shortfalls in staffing levels that are unable to meet growing demands upon this revered but beleaguered institution.
In an unprecedented act of rebellion, some NHS Trusts will be striking for two days this week and next – sparking a heated discussion about the health and well-being of Britain’s public services. It’s certainly one for the history books!
