Capiz sports program with budget?

Matapos nga magpakigbahin ako sa Capiz Sports Summit, may pila ka bagay nga akon nahibaluan kag kinahanglan matun-an, isa na diri ang mga city/provincial sports program sang Ormoc City, Passi City kag province of Antique nga guinpakita sang tiglawas sang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sang Marso 30 sa ikatatlo nga panalgan sang Kapitolyo Probinsyal sang Capiz.

Maybe because of the province of Capiz poor performances in the past Western Visayas regional sports competitions (West Visayas Regional Athletic Association and West Visayas Private School Association).

No doubt, there is dearth if not total absence of caliber athletes, certified coaches and alienation to high-tech facilities, sports technologies, modern sports training and LGU/schools offer and support to our potential athletes.

Year in and Year out, Capiz sports delegations have been accustomed to mediocrity, finding solace in solitary honor provided by few if not some heroic performances of our athletes.

Sa diin na ang aton mga atleta nga sang nagligad nga WVRAA kag WVPRISA nagabandera sang hayahay sang Capiz?

Ang Capiz chess wonder nga si Marco Azaola, nagahampang na yanda sa Hua Siong College of Iloilo; Capiz ace swimmer Wilse Jude B. Azarcon, manuglangoy na sang San Beda College sa Metro Manila; and former member of 2019 Capiz basketball squad that regain the title after 57 years since 1962 WVRAA cage war Jamwell Famaranco, katapo na sang Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers nga katapo ang eskwelahan sang the oldest Philippine collegiate basketball tournament, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) meet sa syudad sang Manila.

That was 61 years ago when Capiz province salvaged the overall champion of the 1962 West Visayas Association (now WVRAA) meet under the leadership of the late Governor Atila “Oxing” Balgos. It was a remote possibility to duplicate this feat, according to some sports observers.

The provincial government of Capiz through the support of the PSC to formulate a Provincial Sports Development Program envisions putting an end to the dismal performances of our delegation and this alarming situation by making a complete turnaround in the regional sports competition.

I believe, this is not only an obligation of the Department of Education (DepEd), both Roxas City and Capiz Schools Divisions, and the provincial government of Capiz, but also an obligation of every Capiznon to support our athletes.

It is high time also to the members of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, Liga ng mga Barangay and League of Municipalities of the Philippines, all in Capiz to join hands to implement the Local Government Code, (Republic Act 7160) mandates all Local Chief Executives to conduct an annual Palarong Pambarangay, Pambayan, Panlungsod and Panlalawigan, which shall feature traditional sports and disciplines included, national and international games in coordination with the DepEd.

I suggest for having a “Capiz LGU Olympics,” an inter-municipality sports competition which serves as community scouting base to discover promising athletes, and new talents, and upgrade the skills and composition of Capiz athletes (Team A and Team B) for future sports competitions.

Nagapasalamat guid ako kay Sir Ronald So for inviting me sa Capiz Sports Summit as well as to Sir Matty Viterbo nga parehas guid nga naghimud-os nga matigayon ini nga okasyon para labing mapabaskog ang programa sa isports sang Capiz kag nagapati ako maski ano pa kanami sang mga ilatag nga progarama indi ini matigayon kong kulang sa suporta kag “budget” ang programa para sa isports.

Indi lang ini obligasyon sang DepEd kag ni Capiz Governor Fredenil H. Castro, obligasyon ini naton tanan nga Capiznon.
