The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines announced that eligible employees will receive a one-time Service Recognition Incentive of PHP 15,000, which will be distributed until January 6, 2021. This amount is lower than the maximum amount of PHP 20,000 allowed under an administrative order signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on December 16. The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition National Chairperson, Benjo Basas, stated that the distribution of the cash could be problematic for division office staff and suggested that the Service Recognition Incentive be distributed through ATMs instead. Despite the lower amount, Basas expressed gratitude that the incentive is higher than the PHP 10,000 given in previous years.

On December 16, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Administrative Order No. 1, which authorized the granting of a Service Recognition Incentive to employees in the executive department at a uniform rate not exceeding PHP 20,000.
