WREATH LAYING FOR THE 75TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY

Commemoration of the 75th death anniversary and wreath laying for the illustrious son of Capiz, the late President Manuel Acuña Roxas and remembering the gallant leader he was to be held at the life-size bronze monument at the Roxas City Pubic Plaza, April 15, 2023.

Manuel A. Roxas was born on January 1, 1892 in Capiz.

Roxas received his early education in the public schools of Capiz. He graduated with the highest honors at the Manila High School in 1909 and proceeded to study law at the University of the Philippines (UP), Diliman, Quezon City. Graduated valedictorian in the Class of 1913, he topped the bar examinations of the same year.

“Manoling,” as he was fondly called by his friends, became the youngest Governor of Capiz at age 27 (1919-1921).

Two years later, he won the seat as representative for the first district of Capiz and was elected Speaker of the House by his colleagues in Congress, a position he held for twelve years.

In 1946, Roxas was elected as the President of the Commonwealth and the First President of the Republic of the Philippines.

After serving as chief executive for a fruitful 23 months, President Roxas passed away on April 15, 1948, at the age 56. Three years after his death, the municipality of Capiz was then named Roxas City in honor of this Capiznon pride.

“Manoling’s” sterling leadership that he provided during his presidency truly exemplified the best of the Filipino spirit.
