Pope Francis spoke about the war in Ukraine and other conflicts on Christmas Eve, saying that the desire for power and greed had reached such a level that some people wanted to “consume even their neighbors.” He encouraged people to remember the war-weary and the poor during the holiday season.

Pope Francis celebrated the 10th Christmas of his pontificate by leading a Christmas Eve Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. This year’s Mass marked the first time in several years that the event had a capacity crowd of around 7,000 people, as attendance had been restricted due to COVID-19 in previous years.

On a relatively warm night, about 4,000 people participated in the Christmas Eve Mass outside in St. Peter’s Square.
