President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has announced that December 26th, the day after Christmas, will be a special non-working holiday for the entire country. On Thursday, President Marcos issued Proclamation No. 115, stating that the additional non-working day on December 26th, 2022 will allow people to fully celebrate the holiday with their families.
In addition to declaring December 26th as a special non-working holiday for the entire country, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has also directed the Department of Labor and Employment to issue a circular for the private sector to implement this proclamation. Christmas Day, which falls on a Sunday this year, is already a regular holiday.
In order to create “long weekends” in 2023, the Philippine government updated the list of regular holidays and special non-working days through Proclamation 90, which amended Proclamation 42. According to Proclamation 90, January 2nd, 2023, which falls on a Monday, will be an additional special non-working day to allow Filipinos the opportunity to visit their relatives and spend time with their families. January 1st, 2023 is already a regular holiday under Proclamation 90.
